WASHINGTON, D.C.—People’s Action today announced Brooke Adams as its new movement politics director. In her new role, Adams will build on her work as People’s Action’s distributed organizing director, in which she led an effort in 2020-2021 that recruited 35,000 volunteers from all 50 states, sent 35 million text messages, and had hundreds of thousands of deep canvass conversations to defeat Donald Trump.
“When Brooke came home to People’s Action, she was ready to lead at a whole new level. She knew how to combine strong organizing fundamentals with honest-to-goodness scale. This is something few trained community organizers have truly experienced,” People’s Action Director George Goehl said. “Her clarity, confidence, and readiness to agitate people to greatness will only lead her to success in this position.”
Prior to her most recent role at People’s Action, Adams served as a field organizer for Sen. Bernie Sanders’ first presidential bid. In 2019, she led a 250-person organizing team to win Iowa for Sanders and served as his state director in North Carolina and Pennsylvania. Before that, Adams served as an organizer with Student Action, a project of People’s Action.
“Our Movement Politics program is now uniquely positioned to build a multiracial poor and working class majority that elects progressive champions across the country and can achieve governing power up and down the ballot,” People’s Action Movement Politics Director Brooke Adams said. “To transform American politics we need to organize millions of poor and working people who don’t yet see themselves as a part of our movement. I’m proud to now lead the team at People’s Action committed to the fundamentals of organizing that are necessary to pull that off.”
People’s Action’s Movement Politics program recruits, runs, and elects progressives into local and statewide offices across the country. Since 2016, People’s Action has helped elect over 380 movement politics candidates. The program focuses on electing women, people of color, and low-income people who are grounded in progressive movement building with our member organizations.
