WASHINGTON, D.C.—People’s Action Director George Goehl today released the following statement in response to the U.S. House of Representatives impeaching Donald Trump on the charge of “incitement of insurrection”:
“Donald Trump’s presidency has been one of many firsts, and that now includes being the first president to be impeached twice. Republicans chose to play with fire and now the whole country is burnt. If they continue to spread disinformation and lie to their constituents, those burns will become scars for all of us.
“But it’s not only the Republican Party. Fox News, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, the zealots screaming on right-wing radio, and anyone else who helped spread the lie of a stolen election are all complicit in what took place at the U.S. Capitol.
“Reps. Cori Bush and Ilhan Omar were some of the first leaders to move to remove Trump. We commend them for their clarity, urgency, and leadership. The Senate must follow them to finish what the House started so we can finally kick this fascist out and bar Trump from ever running for elected office again.
“The 147 Republicans who voted to keep Donald Trump in office have signaled that it is okay for a sitting President of the United States to ignite a violent attack against its own people and the Capitol. This decision will forever be part of their shameful legacy.”
