WASHINGTON, D.C.—People’s Action today released the following statement by Director George Goehl calling on the Senate to do everything it can to include a minimum wage increase in the COVID relief package moving through Congress:
“We need Congress to fight for everyday people. It is undemocratic to allow an unelected parliamentarian to decide how much to pay working people across our country. Elected officials should do everything they can to pass a $15 minimum wage. We support Senator Sanders’ amendment to do so. The rest of the Senate should follow his lead, and use this moment to stand up for workers.”
People’s Action last week joined One Fair Wage in signing a letter calling on the Biden-Harris administration to keep the $15 minimum wage in the COVID relief bill.
