WASHINGTON, D.C.—People’s Action Homes Guarantee Campaign Director Tara Raghuveer today released the following statement in response to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention temporarily extending the national eviction moratorium to June 30th:

“The Biden administration did the right thing by extending the eviction moratorium. But, beyond introducing a new hotline for tenants, the Biden administration failed to substantially improve the Trump order, allowing landlords to continue exploiting its many loopholes. Landlords are still skirting the rules and evicting tenants, while eviction courts remain open and tenants assume mountains of rental debt with no way to pay it back. This extension was needed, but tenants need real justice now and structural change for the long haul.”

About People’s Action

People’s Action is a national network of 40 state and local grassroots, power-building organizations united in fighting for justice. Our organization recently released a vision for a national Homes Guarantee that has already prompted major legislation from champions including U.S. Reps. Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Rashida Tlaib. We operate the largest progressive rural organizing project in the country. Prior to endorsing Sen. Bernie Sanders for president, we completed a national forum series that The Nation called “the most in-depth, people-powered forum” of the 2020 cycle.”
