WASHINGTON, D.C.—People’s Action today released the following statement by Climate Justice Campaign Director Kaniela Ing in response to President Biden’s surrender to Senate Republicans on his infrastructure bill:

“President Biden’s bill was already three times too small before this attempt to placate Republicans and their billionaire backers. Republicans don’t want this administration to succeed, and if the president tries to soothe them by showing his belly, he will damage the communities who are hurting the most. Instead of trying to please people like Mitch McConnell who says they are ‘100% focused’ on stopping him, he should keep his commitments to climate, jobs, and justice that earned him the support of millions of workers, families, caregivers, and climate refugees.”

About People’s Action

People’s Action is a national network of 40 state and local grassroots, power-building organizations united in fighting for justice. Our organization recently released a vision for a national Homes Guarantee that has already prompted major legislation from champions including U.S. Reps. Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Rashida Tlaib. We operate the largest progressive rural organizing project in the country. Prior to endorsing Sen. Bernie Sanders for president, we completed a national forum series that The Nation called “the most in-depth, people-powered forum” of the 2020 cycle.”
